A dental exam is done for all new patients to check your oral health and inform you of any dental concerns that need to be addressed. When doing an exam we review a set of x-rays we take with digital x-rays. The x-rays are used to detect dental problems such as cavities, because a visual exam alone cannot show what is going on inside your tooth.
We take a full set of x-rays for new patients, and then take just a few x-rays yearly to check for changes. During your exam we also do an oral cancer check, and check your gums. We check to see what shape your gums are in and check your teeth against the xrays to complete the exam.
