A dental exam is done for all new patients to check your oral health and inform you of any dental concerns that need to be addressed. When doing an exam we review a set of x-rays we take with digital x-rays. The x-rays are used to detect dental problems such as cavities, because a visual exam alone cannot show what is going on inside your tooth.
We take a full set of x-rays for new patients, and then take just a few x-rays yearly to check for changes. During your exam we also do an oral cancer check, and check your gums.
Preventative care is key to maintaining good dental health. If you catch dental problems when they are just starting you are preventing larger problems such as root canals and extractions from occurring. Too many people wait until they’re teeth start hurting, or a tooth fractures to come in.
