We recommend getting a dental cleaning every 6 months to keep your gums healthy, and to detect any change in your gums or teeth early. Preventative care is key to maintaining a healthy smile. During your dental cleaning we will check your gums and remove the plaque and tarter around your teeth with hand instruments and polish all your teeth.
Brushing two times a day is necessary for optimal health. Two minutes is the ideal time to brush, and you should divide this time equally for the four sides of your mouth. Flossing should be done daily to remove the plaque from in between your teeth.
If your gums bleed when brushing or flossing it is a sign of gingivitis. This is the first sign of gum disease, and occurs because your gums are reacting to the bacteria around them. Over time, this can progress to periodontal disease if not treated. Treatment for gingivitis varies, but usually your regular cleaning, followed by homecare is all you need.
