Root Canals

Root Canal Treatment
If a tooth has severe tooth decay or if you have a dental infection, a root canal is sometimes needed.  A root canal is done with local anesthetic.  We clean out where the pulp and nerve of a tooth are and fill it with a dental material called gutta percha.  We discuss beforehand what type of restoration you will need to restore the tooth after treatment is completed.

After a root canal, depending on whether it was a front tooth or back molar a dental crown will be needed or a filling material.

What to expect during procedure?
• Local anesthetic is given
• A rubber material is used to cover tooth and keep it isolated
• An opening is made on tooth to gain access
• The pulp is removed and the nerve is cleaned out and filled
• A temporary material is used to seal tooth and patient will come back for final restoration of the tooth

Good oral hygiene and preventative care, as with your whole mouth, will make it more likely this treatment will be successful and remained uncompromised
